Visa Information

Please visit the Immigration New Zealand webpage for full information on visitor visas.

If you are needing a letter of invitation for your visa application please contact Maria Fitzgerald: mfitzy@waikato.ac.nz

Also please note that people from certain countries do not need to apply for a visa before travelling to New Zealand.   However on arrival you will be asked to provide certain information.   This is noted below.

Visa-waiver countries

People from certain countries do not need to apply for a visa before travelling to New Zealand. On arrival in New Zealand, they will be asked to provide:

  • travel tickets or evidence of onward travel arrangements, and
  • evidence of funds for maintenance (for more details see our Operational Manual at E4.50, notably E4.50.35 and E4.50.40).

If a person is visiting New Zealand for three months or less and is from a visa-waiver country (see list below), this person will not need to apply for a visitor visa before arriving in New Zealand as long as the purpose of the visit is for a lawful purpose.

A person is deemed to apply for a visitor visa by completing the required “New Zealand Passenger Arrival Card” and if granted entry permission, will also be granted a visitor visa.

A person may stay in New Zealand in accordance with the conditions on their visa.
Visitor visas granted at the airport are electronic, meaning a person may not be given a stamp or label in their passport.

United Kingdom

UK passport holders who can produce evidence of the right to reside permanently in the UK can be granted a visitor visa for up to six months upon arrival in New Zealand.

Australia

Australian citizens and permanent residents do not usually need a visa to travel to New Zealand.
